White Scribbled Underline

Certain meals may affect thyroid function or medication absorption in hypothyroidism. Limit or avoid these seven foods:

Tofu, soy milk, and edamame contain phytoestrogens, which may inhibit thyroid hormone synthesis.

1

Soy

Large dosages of goitrogens in broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and Brussels sprouts impact thyroid hormone synthesis. Prepared veggies are less goitrogenic.

Cruciferous Vegetables

2

Hypothyroidism individuals may have gluten-intolerant Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Avoiding gluten-containing wheat, barley, and rye may help.

3

Gluten

Fibre is healthy, but too much in whole grains and certain fruits and vegetables may hinder thyroid medication absorption. Take thyroid medication and high-fiber foods many hours apart.

4

High-Fiber Foods

High refined sugars, fats, and chemicals in processed foods can cause inflammation and thyroid dysfunction.

5

Processed Foods

Too much iodine can worsen hypothyroidism, especially in autoimmune thyroid disease patients. Limit seaweed, iodized salt, and iodine supplements.

6

Excessive Iodine

Caffeine and alcohol impair thyroid function and hormone production. Reduce coffee and alcohol for hypothyroidism.
