Air Fryer Rotisserie Chicken Recipe

The air fryer makes this rotisserie-style chicken, so the skin is crispy and the meat is rich and juicy.  

INGREDIENTS

– 4 teaspoons fine sea salt – 2 teaspoons paprika – 1 teaspoon onion powder – 1 teaspoon dried thyme – 1 teaspoon white pepper – ½ teaspoon black pepper – ½ teaspoon garlic powder – ½ teaspoon dried oregano, marjoram, and/or rosemary optional – ¼ to ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper – 2 cloves garlic finely minced – 3-4 tablespoons olive oil – 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar – 1 whole chicken, giblets removed 4-5 pound

INSTRUCTIONS

Mix spices, garlic, oil, and vinegar in a small bowl. Set aside. Pre-heat your air fryer to 380ºF for 5-10 minutes while preparing the chicken.  

Step 1

Butcher's wire should be used to hold the chicken together so that the skin gets the crispiest and the cooking is even.   

Step 2

As an alternative to properly trussing your chicken, bind the legs together using butcher's twine to make it easier to move in and out of the air fryer.  

Step 3

After trussing the chicken, rub 80% of the spice mixture on all sides. Keep the extra seasoning mix.  

Step 4

After preheating the air fryer, oil the basket bottom. Put the chicken breast-side down in the basket.  

Step 5

Air fried at 380ºF for 30 minutes. Turn the chicken breast-side up. Brush extra reserved seasoning mixture on with a basting brush.   

Step 6

Keep cooking at 380ºF for 20-30 minutes or until an instant-read thermometer reads 165ºF.   

Step 7

Move the chicken to a sheet pan wire rack. Rest 10 minutes before carving and serving.
