Easy Homemade Croutons Recipe

The finest salad topping is homemade croutons! Use the right breads, season them, and make them crispy.  


– 4 cups cubed good bread such as sourdough, focaccia, or a baguette (see notes) – 4 tablespoons olive oil – ½ teaspoon fine sea salt – ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper – ½ teaspoon garlic powder – ½ teaspoon onion powder Other optional spices: – Chili powder – Smoked paprika – Cumin – Dried Italian herb – Parmesan cheese


Preheat the oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. If you have a bowl that is on the larger side, put the bread in it.   

Step 1

Toss the bread with the mixture after adding the olive oil and the spices. This will ensure that the loaf is evenly coated with the mixture.  

Step 2

It is recommended to use a baking sheet that has a rim and spread the bread out in an even layer.   

Step 3

Roast them in the oven for 10–20 minutes, turning them over every five minutes, until they are golden brown and crisp around the edges but still tender in the interior.   

Step 4

Take note that as the croutons continue to cool, they will acquire a crispier texture more quickly.
